Exodus

An expository sermon series through the book of Exodus. Exodus is the second book of the Old Testament and it is also the second chapter of a five-chapter book called The Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy) authored by Moses. The events taking place in Exodus chapter 1 are taking place some 350 years after the events at the end of Genesis. The book of Exodus documents how God redeemed His people out of slavery and led them to salvation by a mediator.  As one pastor has desribed it in concert with other commentators, the three main movements of the book could be summarized with three words, Deliverance (ch.1-15), Covenant (ch.16-24), and Worship (ch.25-40).

The first part of the book shows us the way God rescued and redeemed His people and shows us the horror of what they were redeemed from. The second part of the book shows God brining His people into a covenantal relationship with Himself. And the third part of book shows us the way in which God wants His people to respond in worship.

Contrary to what most may think, the book of Exodus is not mainly about Moses or even the nation of Israel. It is about Christ and the amazing things He has done to deliver us from slavery, to bring us to Himself and to set us apart as a people for His own glory!
